DAITOKUJI OBAI-IN, A HISTORIC ZEN TEMPLE FOUNDED IN 1562

The history of Daitokuji Obai-in dates back to 1562 where Oda Nobunaga built this temple to commemorate his late father. After he was killed by a rebellion within his ranks, his subject Toyotomi Hideyoshi renovated the temple. Hideyoshi also ordered Sen-no-Rikyu, the renowned tea master, to design the famous moss garden which is known to us as Jikicu-tei today.⁠

BYODOIN TEMPLE, A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Founded in 1092, Byodoin Temple tells a significant story of Japan’s history. As part of the Buddhist Pure Land architecture, the temple represents the Pure Land Paradise and is home to National Treasures such as the Phoenix Hall. The hall is known as nearly the only surviving example of the glorious Fujiwara Regent Period, and as such, is one of Japan’s most significant cultural assets.⁠

The Choho-ji temple, better known as Rokkakudo, is one of Kyoto’s most ancient temples. According to legend, the origins of Ikebana can be traced back to the 15th century, when Sankei Ikenobo, one of the temple’s monks, invented a style of flower arranging which was passed down over the centuries.⁠
